Car24 is the rental we would book first for a visitor without a credit card. Its terms say no card is needed and nothing is blocked on one. You leave a USD 100 to 200 cash deposit (about 260 to 520 GEL) that comes back at return when the car is in order. Full CASCO cover with no deductible is in the price, mileage is unlimited from two days and delivery to Batumi airport is free. Rent2Go is cheaper for a five-seat car, but it publishes no deposit, card rule or airport fee.
Car24 publishes no model years, so ask the year of your car and check it for wear at handover before you sign. Its 7-seat Outlander at USD 48 a day from 7 days (about 125 GEL) is our family pick.

Rent2Go publishes the lowest dollar price among our eleven for a named five-seat car at a stated length. Its 2016 Toyota Prius is USD 35 a day for 1 to 3 days and USD 30 a day for 4 to 7 days, so a week costs USD 210 (GEL 560 on its own lari list). Car24's Elantra is USD 36 a day from 7 days. Rent2Go's catalogue states each car's model year and lari price, and cover with a USD 200 deductible is in the price.
The catch is what the site leaves out. It publishes no deposit amount, no card rule and no airport fee, so ask for all three in writing before you book. It is our pick for a cheap week and for stays past 30 days, when the Prius drops to GEL 40 a day on its own lari list.

DraCars is our pick when you want nothing held at all. Its terms say no deposit on any car and no prepayment, and you pay at pickup in lari, roubles, dollars, euros, crypto or by card. Drivers with two or more years' licence carry no excess, delivery to Batumi airport or any Batumi address is free, and a child seat is included. Against Car24 there is no cash deposit to leave. A 2014 Prius is USD 38 a day for 3 to 4 days (about 99 GEL).
The cheap tier is old. The 2012 Escape, 2014 Fusion and 2014 Camry sit on the home page that calls the fleet under seven years old, and the 2014 Prius on its fleet page, so check the model year on your booking. It is our pick for visitors without a working Russian card, for families with small children and for the mountains in its 4x4.

Do you need a credit card to rent?
No, you do not need a credit card to rent from several Batumi firms. Three of our eleven say in writing that no credit card is needed or that nothing is blocked on one, Car24, EasyCar.ge and Geo Car Rents, and DraCars takes no deposit. Published deposits run from none to USD 200 (about 520 GEL).

Car24 says no credit card is needed, EasyCar.ge says nothing is blocked on a card, and Geo Car Rents says you can book without a credit card. GeoDrive, Autonik Rentals and DraCars accept cards for payment, and Autonik takes debit cards too. The others publish nothing on cards, so ask before you book.
Renting with no deposit
DraCars takes no deposit on any car, and Adjara Cars and Geo Car Rents state none. Each has a catch. DraCars applies an excess to drivers with under two years' licence, Adjara Cars quotes starting rates, and Geo Car Rents quotes from-rates.
When the deposit comes back
The deposit comes back at the handover when the car is in order, at Car24 on return and at EasyCar.ge at once. Easy Rent Car returns its deposit after the car is accepted, Autonik right after return, and GeoDrive after a joint inspection, less any deductions. Count the cash before you leave the handover.
Deposit versus excess
A deposit is money held while you have the car. The excess is the ceiling on what you pay toward damage the insurance covers.
Car24 states no excess, DraCars none for drivers with two years' licence, and Rent2Go USD 200 (about 520 GEL), as GeoDrive does for drivers with more than 2 years' experience. Ask the others for the excess in writing.

How much does a rental cost per day?
USD 30 a day (GEL 80 on its own lari list) is the lowest published rate for a named five-seat car on a week, a 2016 Toyota Prius at Rent2Go. Shorter rentals cost more per day. The same Prius is USD 35 a day for 1 to 3 days (GEL 95 on its own lari list), and a two-seat Smart at Car24 is USD 26 a day for 3 to 6 days (about 68 GEL).

Insurance and excess: what is covered
Insurance and excess differ by firm, from full CASCO with no deductible at Car24 to a USD 200 deductible at Rent2Go and at GeoDrive for drivers with more than 2 years' experience (about 520 GEL). On a Batumi price list, full insurance can still carry an excess, as Easy Rent Car's full CASCO does.
What the cover words mean
CDW states the most you pay for damage to the rental car, the excess. Theft cover does the same for theft, and third-party cover pays for damage you do to others. CASCO, the word on local price lists, means comprehensive cover for the car itself.
Glass, mirrors, tyres and underbody are excluded at Rent2Go and GeoDrive, and DraCars never covers tyres and underbody. Autonik's cover is subject to a police report, so call the police to any accident before you move the car.

Localrent is a booking platform that lists cars from local rental firms in Batumi. You pay 15 to 20% in advance by card and the rest to the rental agent at pickup. The deposit differs by car, and the platform says many cars carry none or up to USD 100 (about 260 GEL). Its rules ban crossing the border, naming Türkiye, and routes such as the Goderdzi pass road from Akhaltsikhe to Batumi, and they apply to any Localrent booking whatever the firm allows. Cancellation carries no penalty until 7 days before pickup (30 days for luxury cars and convertibles), or 24 hours before with its free-cancellation option, and a 6% payment-service fee applies.

Can you drive to Türkiye or Armenia?
No, none of our eleven firms allows Türkiye by default. For Armenia, GeoDrive, Car24 and EasyCar.ge say no, Easy Rent Car allows it only by prior agreement, DraCars only for Georgian residence-permit holders, and the other six publish nothing. GeoDrive does not permit it, Car24 keeps its cars in Georgia, and EasyCar.ge allows Georgia-controlled territory alone. DraCars allows a crossing for holders of a Georgian residence permit, by separate paid arrangement, and Easy Rent Car's FAQ says no while its conditions say by prior agreement.
The papers at the border
Turkish customs ask for the rental contract, the car's registration papers and traffic insurance valid in Türkiye for a car entering on a rental. Get the firm's written consent first.
Foreign citizens may enter Abkhazia from the Zugdidi direction and the Tskhinvali region from the Gori direction, and Georgian law states that entry from any other direction is prohibited and punishable under the Criminal Code.

What do you need to rent a car?
To rent a car in Batumi you need your passport and driving licence. The six firms that publish a minimum age ask for 21 or over. The licence rule is each firm's own, so check yours against the table.
Licence and international permit
Car24 accepts an international licence, or a national licence from a Vienna Convention country that carries English text as well, and Rent2Go asks for a licence with English text. DraCars accepts a national licence and says no international permit is needed. GeoDrive asks for an international permit where your national licence is not accepted, and Autonik recommends one for non-EU citizens. Ask your firm in writing before you fly.
Age and experience
DraCars and Batumi Renting Cars rent from 21 with one year's licence. Rent2Go and Autonik ask for 21 and two years' licence, Easy Rent Car for over 21 and over two years, and GeoDrive's FAQ asks for 21 and at least two years, while its cover chart lists terms under two years.
What 300 km a day means
A daily cap sets how far the car may go for each day you rent it. EasyCar.ge's terms allow 300 km a day on rentals up to 5 days, counted over the whole rental, so 3 days carry 900 km, and each extra kilometre costs GEL 0.50, though its FAQ says mileage is unlimited. Easy Rent Car allows 500 km a day. Car24 (from 2 days), Rent2Go, DraCars, Geo Car Rents, GeoDrive and Batumi Renting Cars state unlimited mileage.

What to know before you rent
Before you rent in Batumi, get the deposit and excess in writing, check the car at handover and ask the firm about fines.
Damage at return
Film the car all round at pickup, with the fuel gauge and odometer in shot, and keep the video until the deposit is back. Agree in writing what counts as damage and as a car that needs a wash.
The price for your dates
Adjara Cars, Geo Car Rents, GeoDrive, Easy Rent Car and SM Rent a Car quote starting or from-rates, so ask for the total for your dates before you pay anything. Car24, DraCars and Geo Car Rents take no prepayment, while Easy Rent Car takes the whole rental on the delivery day.
Traffic fines
A Georgian traffic fine must be paid within 30 days of the notice, and a surcharge is added when it is not paid in time. Camera fines on a car show on the Interior Ministry's online fine lookup by number plate, under its video fine tab. Easy Rent Car tracks the fines on its cars, pays them and bills you the amount. With any other firm, ask about fines before you sign.
